I moved three kits out of the litter of five away from my NZ, Esmerelda, last week. Last night I moved the remaining kits out. They will be 8 weeks on Sunday, but they are so big they were driving her crazy.


The two I moved last night...I moved them into a big clean cage, new feed, new hay, big ceramic tile for them to rest on....and something bugged me but I double checked all the buns and went to bed. DH was plucking a turkey and I wanted to get my brine going.


This morning I go out...something doesn't look right...OMG I forgot to give them a water bottle!!

Boy did I feel guilty.


On a side note...these were NZW (100%) and my dutch buck (Rudy-who knows what he is). I had bred her to my NZW buck (rudy) but she doesn't seem to like him, so this was a test breeding to see who was the sterile one. No babies from him yet, She's due in about two weeks so we'll give him three shots.

Her mix bunnies however...they are about 4-5 lbs at 8 weeks. We just sent some dutches to freezer camps that all dressed out about 2 lbs each @ 12 weeks.

So I'm pretty impressed with the mix...they grew almost as fast as pure NZW and they are really so cute...they all have fur like chinchillas save for two that are predominantly brown.

Water... <gasp!>... water... I bet you felt guilty when they mobbed the water bottle!

I know! They had eaten a crapload of pellets, too.
