Hi everybunny!
Okay I realize I haven't been on in an eternity...okay, since March 6th   but I have lots of news to share with those interested in my rabbitry. :)
Lets see...where do I start?

1) I went to my very first rabbit show on the 12th!!!!!!!!!!! :p :p :p :p I've never seen so many rabbits in one place! It was amazing! It was so cool to get to see all the breeds in person that I had only seen in pictures! :D Quite an experience!

2) I got a new Dutch Doe! She's a blue doe even though the lighting in the below picture makes her look black. She's such a sweety. The name she came with is Flower but I was hoping for something a little more creative? Any name suggestions?

5) BIG NEWS! I am now the proud owner of an adorable Netherland Dwarf doe! She is a Blue Silver marten and her name is Tinkerbell! I will hopefully have a litter out of her this summer. She is around 9 months old right now. :) I'm SO excited to be adding a new breed to my rabbitry!! :D Now I have 5 holes! Not much, but it's a big deal for me! :)

4) And last but most assuredly not least! I HAVE BABIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :p :p :p YAY! :D :D It's my first litter in almost a year. Lots of complications with previous does being to old etc. The really awesome part is I finally palpated correctly! At day 14 I felt 3 grape sized balls, at day 28 I felt the kits kicking and sure enough on the 31st day I arrived at around 7am to find my doe Ginger giving birth to the last of 3 kits! Sadly the last one I was there to witness was stillborn and looked very thin and we guess it probably died a day or two before birth. It was named, given a tiny rock headstone and buried in our "grave yard" (a small area in our back yard where we burry all the birds who hit our windows. :( )
Anyway, I have 2 beautiful Holland lop kits! They are now 8 days old! One is Tri color and I thought the other was a tort but my friend says it is a smutty orange because of the white in the ears....thoughts? I don't know much about oranges so I need help.

And here they are today :) 8 Days old. (Below)

I'm glad to hear your Dutch is such a sweetheart, one of my first rabbits was a chocolate Dutch and a real piece of work  unfortunately he soured me on the breed for life ;)

Maybe name her after a blue flower ? Iris, periwinkle, lilac

Tri colours have spots of black and not just black shading and I'm pretty sure your lop kits are fawn/orange and broken fawn

Aww, sorry to hear that. I love all my Dutch to pieces. :D

I was trying to think of blue Flowers! Thanks for the suggestions! :)

And she has black spots, not shading -- positive she's a tri. I'll try to get some close up pics of her head for you though. :) I'm taking pictures of them daily so I'll post updates when they get a bit older.

The flowers on her look like Oxalis flowers. That would make a nice name! :)

Oxalis are also called Wood Sorrel. Sorrel would be a pretty name, too.

OOooo I like that! :) But the Dutch is actually the one I'm renaming. The little ND with the flowers is named Tinkerbell. :D But I really like Sorrel for the blue Dutch! :)

Okay, so the orange looking kit has a white belly so it is definitely not a tort, right? I'm guessing a smutty orange?
Here are some pictures of the little black spots on the tri's head as well.

Yup, smutty fawn and technically you have a Tri but the markings are so poor I would not advertise it for a tri breeding program :(

It seems there are other modifiers at work which allow more black to be expressed that appear to be getting diluted out as there seems to be a LOT of mainly Orange tri's and harlis with just the tiniest spots of black

I wonder if it is just smutty? Since so many people breed for clear reds it would make sense that that blackish color would get diluted.

Well Dood, my Hollands may be pedigree but I've been told they aren't show quality, and I like selling to pet homes anyway...I'm not much into the whole showing business....

But thanks for the clear up! Fawn? Really? The back is very dark so I was thinking orange.....

__________ Sun Mar 27, 2016 2:20 pm __________

Well, the tri is a buck so I'll be selling him, and the Fawn is a doe so I will probably be keeping her...

Question, if I do keep the fawn and breed her back to the dad (replacing my current broody--the fawns mother) will I have the same colored kits as with the current doe?
My current doe is tri and has harli, tri, and apparently fawn kits....would it be possible for her to also have orange or red kits? Or other colors as well?
So if I bred this kit (Back to the dad) would she produce the same colors as mom?

If dad is a blue tort and is bred to his daughter who is a fawn and carries self and blue

You will NOT get any brokens or tri's because you neither parent has these genes

You will get fawn and blue fawns/creams as well as black torts and blue torts

You may get other colours if they share hidden recessives - if they both carry wideband you may get oranges but I don't think there is enough Rufus factors for a nice red

So I suppose that means I wouldn't get any Harli's either? :( Ehh...I'm thinking I should rebreed and try again...I really want to replace this doe but I love my tri and harlis!!!

Well we named them! :) The Tri buck is Copper (Secret meaning: he sniffs EVERYTHING so we named him Copper in regards to the dog from Fox and the Hound) And the Fawn/orange doe I named Fawn (Secret meaning: She is mostlikely Fawn colored and looks like a baby deer = fawn. ;) )

__________ Tue Apr 05, 2016 5:01 pm __________

I've decided to sell both kits and try again for another tri doe this summer. :)
Here are some pictures of the kits! They are 3 weeks old now! :D

Copper, the buck:

Oh and Dood, apparently Fawn isn't a color in Hollands now, so it would be just orange.

__________ Thu May 05, 2016 6:34 pm __________

Almost 8 weeks! :)
