So we have had a colony since June. I love it. We have 3 does and 1 buck in there. BUT I cant take this not knowing when they are due, or if they are pg mess. So poor little lopsy (our very happy buck) got moved to the bunny condo next door to the colony. He will get visits at my approved timing lol!

The final draw was today. Yesterday I was feeling Jaylene and she did not feel pg anymore. Her teets looked like they were suckled on (we have a 6 week old kit left from Ebony in there still, I thought maybe she snacked on her)

So today we are out there and a cute little approxamately 3 week old kit comes hoping around in the colony. We looked in all the nest boxes and all around. Finally found a couple of holes that were hidden (it is wired around the egde not middle). So we could not find any more and thought how strange for her to have one. I had my husband feel the back of the holes and we even dug up one burrow. One did not feel that far back) So after we wired the whole floor of the colony (using wire cubes) I see a cute little tort, UNDER the wire in one of the once thought empty holes!!!! So we go outside the fence of the yard and I dig back a little more and finally find the true end of the nest. 3 more little guys in there! So 4 total! They are in the hutch now and the floor is fully wired, we will add some dirt later for them to walk on.

So colony still for the ladies, but I need to know when we have kits!

Got some cute little guys though!

Here are the little sneaks babies!

If you watch carefully your buck will tell you when you have kits. He will spend 2 or 3 days harassing whatever doe has given birth because they become really hormonal and ready to breed right after having kits. I have accurately placed the next due date on most of our does the past 3 months even when no sign of a litter was found just by watching what my buck is doing every day while I feed. It is useful though to occasionally pull the buck, let everyone kindle, and reset the breeding schedule so you know for sure and if they kindle together you can foster when needed. You can also give everyone a break then. Mine is caged until March so we will have few Jan litters and none Feb. I'll probably breed a few late Feb and then put him down with the rest for the spring again.

You know he is so laid back. He was interested in the one that that I know had kits for a bit, but she ignored him. I have never seen him interested in the other two. I guess he was lol. I was starting to think he didnt like the other two. BUT the other one is quite obviously pg now and I think the one with 6 week old kits is pg again, but just a couple of weeks (if I am right)

They are soooooo cute. I will get pix tomorrow.

Nice kits! Be sure to watch for more that still may be underground. The last colony litter we had (from three does) took a week to all appear... 18 in all! It would be tragic to trap some under the wire.

Yikes that is my worst fear. That should be all. There are not more holes they could be in. One doe has 6 week old kits and feels newly pg, one is quite obviously pg, so unless we missed some of this litter I think we are good. I sure hope so.

We had to wire it. WE thought we found the hole that the one kit came out of because there was pulled fur. (just a little) Well now I assume that my other doe had plans for that hole! Plus two of the holes were almost out of the yard. I was afraid something would get in.

That broken tort was the one that we found in the colony. My husband thought I got Leah a new bunny. He texted me, "Leah found the white bunny" I was like what? is that a code? We dont have a white bunny. Then I thought she must have kindled. When I saw the bunny I was like WHAT she is like 3 weeks old!

They have got a ton of kisses lol. They were just found yesterday and they are pretty much tamed and love us all ready lol
