Just curious why do you charge more for bucks than for does? I have meat rabbits that I sell. My does are always in so much more demand than my bucks and I have seen that most people charge more for does for that reason.

I have a pedigreed champagne buck and would love to get a champagne doe (too bad you aren't in my area). I was just wondering if there was a reason champagne bucks cost more than does.

I believe that a buck is more important to a herd than any single doe. The genetics of a herd buck is spread throughout the whole herd. I don't keep very many of the bucks that are born into my herd. If they are not something I would keep myself they are sold at the sale barn. I linebreed so the buck is a very important part of my breeding program. The doe is also very important but the role of the buck, to me, is key.
Also with a buck you breed to several does and get to see the results of the breeding over a range of different bloodlines faster than with a single doe.
Now my pricing for "proven" does is higher. One that consistantly produces good young and is a good mother is worth her cost. But, breed her to a low quality buck and all bets are off.
My "hobby" is showing rabbits. Even if one is just raising for meat production I belive the reasons I've given are still true.
Sorry, I tend to ramble on.

If you have already culled the bucks down to the best then it makes sense because your average quality buck you are selling is higher than your average quality doe you are selling. Otherwise a herd only needs 1 or 2 bucks while it could use 10-20 does so usually does sell more. Most of mine that aren't butchered end up getting sold cheap as pets because people already have too many bucks.
