Ever since the forum returned firefox 8 will not load it no matter what I do. It just keeps waiting for rabbittalk until it freezes and goes to a crash report. Even if I tell it to stop loading after it has started I get a not responding message until it crashes. Task manager shows it's taking up half my dual core processor. I cleared history and everything and it's done no good. I finally had to use IE and might have to download chrome if it doesn't start working. It may just be the older backup desktop I'm using until my laptop gets fixed but it should be able to load simple forums.

First step is to clear your browser cache. If that has no effect, we'll take it from there.

This is definitely a Firefox issue and not a site issue, but I'll help as much as I can.

I already did that along with checking both windows and firefox updates and restarting my computer twice to make sure everything took effect. It did work periodically yesterday and then other times it would crash everything. Today it seems to have gotten worse. Is anyone else using firefox 8 or still 7?

Still 7 here, planning to update later today. Sometimes the Firefox profile gets screwed up. Try starting Firefox with a new blank profile, see if you can use the site properly with it. That will at least narrow down the cause.

Close Firefox, and make sure it's really closed. If necessary, kill the process in task manager.

On XP click Start, then Run, then type "firefox.exe -profilemanager" without the quotes.
Click Create Profile, and give it a name.
Click the new profile in the list, and uncheck "Don't ask at startup", then click Start Firefox.

On Windows Vista/7 it's much the same process, but instead of Start and then Run, it's just Start and then type the command into the search field.

See if you can reply to this thread using the new profile.

I'm using Firefox 8 here, with no problems. I did get the warnings at first, and before that, I got redirected to the actual virus site (and got the virus, no thanks to those Russian idiots!).

Well that fixes the problem but there's an insane amount of stuff I'd have to copy over. There's so many files, add ons, and toolbars I am required to have for my job and any of that could be damaged. I think it took me 2hours to set up firefox on this computer so I could do work when my laptop died and twice that spent on independent software.

There's an excellent addon called FEBE that can be used to back up different things from your profile selectively. I think your best bet, to save some time, would be to use it to back up each category of data (e.g. bookmarks, addons, etc) and restore each to your new profile. I don't recommend using the "backup profile" option, as it will likely copy the problem as well.

I think it's likely you have a bad addon in there somewhere that's causing the crash.
