Congratulations! That is really something to place so high out of all those entries! Do you know how many exhibitors there were?

I am hoping for more competition at the upcoming shows. I brought 7 bucks (5 Jr. 2 Sr.) and two Jr. does, and there were only a Sr. buck and a Sr. doe from another exhibitor. Her rabbits didn't place at all, but it is a hollow victory competing primarily against yourself.

Do you have any tips to add to my post about first show experiences?

There were at least five different breeders for that variety. For the whole Rex show, there were 10-12 breeders, and most classes had 9+ different rabbits.

Thank you everyone. I love Elmo, and I am glad I got a good one to jump into the world of showing with.

Congrats thats terrific!! Wow was it crazy or what? I have never seen PASRBA that busy in all the years I've been going, and a lot of my friends thought so too. Even with moving the vendors out of the showroom it still was wall to wall rabbits. I heard they announced absolutely no chairs in the showroom and they were going to start shoving any chairs outside and they meant it, normally they let chairs slide a bit. They really need a bigger place, but all there is thats larger would probably be the Farm Complex in Harrisburg. I liked the vendors being in their own room, wish they would have a dedicated rabbits for sale area, it was rough trying to sell the Standard Chins and trying to find rabbits that I was looking for. I still can't get over how packed and busy it was.

It was insane. My rabbits were under the table in the Rex section, that was the only space left. I never did sit down, Rexes were one of the first breeds judged, I stood at the table listening to the whole thing, learned a lot. I barely found a rabbit, they were stacked in such odd places, I was peeking in between peoples cages, looking for one for sale. I must have looked crazy, but I think people knew what I was doing. By the time I finished shopping, Rex Specialty was ready.

I didn't know there were other people there from here. We went on Saturday because we purchased American Blue does. I was a little overwhelmed at first with the crowds, but apparently we showed up when everyone was either eating lunch or calling raffles...it was a real crush of people.

I was also a crazy person walking through people and their animals looking for buns for sale. We purchased an NZ buck and the two blue american does from one gal, and a copper satin from another family. I was actually looking at their flemish but DH fell in love with a bun. Which proceeded to scratch me all across my chest when I carried him out to the carriers. Wench.

I have a question...I have never been to a show before. I was trying to watch some of the judging but it was tough...the only thing I wish was that maybe they had put the judges elevated against the walls...very difficult to see what was going on for short round girl. LOL

I watched one judge with Checkered Giants. I don't know if it's my ignorance or if anyone else saw the judging that could help me. He seemed....excessivly rough with the rabbits. And he judged one, replaced it, and than picked up another bunny. I'm new to rabbits but it was easy to see to me that the bun was trying to poop when he picked it up, and was trying to poop on the table. I mean...when you got to go you got to go...he was trying to pee, but the judge kept whapping him on the butt, whapping him on the butt and than the side. Eventually the rabbit turned and sprayed him...A LOT. All down his arm and side.

And I seemed to be the only one to find that amusing. A couple people looked at me like I had laughed at a child falling down.

Is it normal for the judges to be so rushed and rough? If your rabbit decides to bathe a judge, are your chances over?

Because the judge stands at the table... handling each and every rabbit... the tables are set at a height that accomidates the judge. Exhibitors come and go... but the judge is stuck in one spot. If they would be bending over most of the day... lifting all those rabbits... i'm betting their backs would be really complaining by the end. I am fairly short myself and have needed , many times , to stand on my tip-toes to see what was going on. And... i have needed a taller person to reach for my rabbit when they are done being judged...cuz i simply cannot reach them.

Checkers...quite often... have a reputation of being ...shall we say... a bit 'snippy'...a lot of judges use a very NO nonsense approach when handling them....

And...finally....there Are judges out there that can be a bit rough in their handling of the rabbit. If it is extreme then the exhibitor will need to make the choice of Not showing under that judge again. (which could end up wasting the entry fee) Most judges are very considerate in their handling...but i Have seen Some....grrrrr.
