So some body had posted 2 free lops on Craigslist. My dd is wanting a lop that is a pet since we raise meat rabbits so I respond to the ad asking for details.

They are both boys about 2 years old. They have to be in separate cages because they fight. That was very stressed in the response that you must have two cages before they will give you the rabbits. However, they are brothers that have grown up together and therefore he refuses to separate them. huh?

They are probably saying whatever it takes to get an interested person to take both  and get rid of them.

I would bet they fell for the "rabbits always need friends" line the rescue groups use but found out the reality is unless you neuter, provide huge cages bordering more on an entire room of your house, and get lucky many end up fighting. They then say the rabbits need each other for friendship but can't be put together. A little anthropomorphism that rabbits who are territorial enough to kill each other still feel friendship.

Um ^^^^^
yeah
I would have said "I was a breeder, the kids want pets and if you want to fix the fighting thing, just leave them in together, they'll solve it, you'll end with one rabbit, but..."

Stupid people, rabbits are people toooo
sheesh

There's a woman last night who had 12...TWELVE ads all in a row taking orders for easter bunnies...they were mixed rabbits 'lion head/lop/netherland dwarf' mixes...

She said she was expecting 10 litters in time for Easter...I'm all for someone wanting to sell to the pet market, but ten litters seems a little irresponsible to me if she doesn't have an outlet other than craigslist. Is that wrong of me to think?

Those are the people that the rescues hold up as examples of All rabbit breeders being evil. In my mind those Are the evil rabbit breeders. Irresponsible breeding ! And those of us who do breed responsibly take the brunt.

Maybe she will eat all that don't sell? That would make it responsible.

As for the OP, he probably doesn't want rabbits anymore and it's near impossible to sell off one rabbit, 2 for the same price may get someone willing to take both and resell the other.
Either way, free, so who cares if it's one too many.
